Safety Ratings
There are many infant car seats available on the market. They range from being excellent to not so good. It is important to do some research before buying an infant car seat to know what you're looking for and which seats are the most highly rated. The good news is that even lowest priced no-name infant car seats tend to do well in crash tests.
Maxi cosi is a European company that has been keeping children safe since 1984, has now brought their experience to the US. They have a range of rear-facing only carseats. The Mico Max Plus is their most recent offering and looks fantastic.
One of the things that sets this seat apart is the fact that it can be in a rear-facing position for a longer time than other seats. This is crucial, as studies show that infants are safer rear-facing for as long as they are able to. The Mico Max Plus can remain rear-facing for a maximum of two years!
The seat is also unique as it comes with a recline function. Most infant car seats don't have this feature and it could be beneficial in helping your baby to sleep. The seat also offers a nice amount of padding and the SIP and headrest are very well padded too.
The only negative with the Mico Max Plus is that it's not as easy to use as some other infant car seats. It's harder to get the seat in the right position and you need to work a bit more to tighten the straps. It's a little bit of a learner's curve to utilize the LATCH anchors and tether.
Overall the car seat has a very high safety rating. It's the top performer in our crash test and it's got very low g-forces both on the head and chest of the dummy.
The seat won't last longer than other models. According to CDC charts of growth, your child will begin to outgrow it around the age of three, and it's difficult to reach the age of five in this car seat. It has a 40lb weight limit and a single height adjustment. At that point you'll likely have to upgrade to a booster seat that has no back, or a bigger seat.

These included how straightforward it is to set up the seat and its base, alter the harness's positions, put a child in the seat, secure the harness, and remove the child from the seat. It's easily removed and machine washable, making it quick and easy to clean. The infant insert included provides additional neck and head protection for infants who are smaller. However during an earlier crash test conducted by Consumer Reports, two of the LATCH straps on the Mico 30 tore through the base's belt path, which could lower the safety margin in an extremely violent frontal crash. This was a rare event but it is crucial to be aware that this could occur when you install the car seat.
